What We Do and
How We Got Here
From Our Founder, Darcus Nims
Who
Are We?
We are people with developmental
disabilities who started our state group 15 years ago. We got together
because of a grant from the Governor's Planning Council. We found out
that we had the same hopes and dreams as other people. We hadn't known
there were other people like us who wanted more for themselves. We found
out the people didn't even think we could do it. But we've proved
them wrong!

Self-Advocates of Indiana isn't like
it was 10 years ago.
It is 15 years later, and
our organization is still going strong. We now have our incorporation
and not for profit status. We still have a lot to do because
of changes we want to get done. Our board is working hard
to develop and lead our organization so that we can be an
effective resource to people with developmental disabilities
and their families throughout Indiana.
